چکیده

Although automatic off-line signature verification has been extensively studied in the last three decades, there are still a huge number of open questions and even the best systems are still struggling to get better error rates than 5%. This paper targets some of the weak spots of the research area, which are comparability, measurability and interoperability of different signature verification systems. After delivering an overview of some of the main research directions, this paper proposes a generic representation of signature verifiers. In the first part of the paper it is shown how existing verification systems compare to the generic model, detailing the differences and their resolutions. In the second part a signature verification framework is introduced, which was created based on the generic model. It is demonstrated how existing algorithms and even an existing signature verifier can be modularized and modified to allow an execution through the framework. Finally the benefits of the model are outlined including the unified benchmarking, comparability of different systems and the support for distributed software architectures like SOA. Key-Words: signature verification; off-line; unified model; component based; loose coupling

Classification Approaches in Off-Line Handwritten Signature Verification

The aim of off-line signature verification is to decide, whether a signature originates from a given signer based on the scanned image of the signature and a few images of the original signatures of the signer. Although the verification process can be thought to as a monolith component, it is recommended to divide it into loosely coupled phases (like preprocessing, feature extraction, feature m...

Multi-script Off-line Signature Verification: A Two Stage Approach

Signature identification and verification are of great importance in authentication systems. The purpose of this paper is to introduce an experimental contribution in the direction of multi-script off-line signature identification and verification using a novel technique involving off-line English, Hindi (Devnagari) and Bangla (Bengali) signatures. In the first evaluation stage of the proposed ...

Statistical Features Based Off Line Signature Verification System using Image Processing Techniques

Handwritten signature recognition can be divided into online (or dynamic) and off-line (or static) recognition. Online recognition refers to a process that the signer uses a special pen called a stylus to create his or her signature, producing the pen locations, speeds and pressures, while off-line recognition just deals with signature images acquired by a scanner or a digital camera. In genera...

Offline Signature Verification Using Surf Feature Extraction and Neural Networks Approach

In this paper we will evaluate the use of SURF features in handwritten signature verification. For each known writer we will take a sample of three genuine signatures and extract their SURF descriptors. In this paper, off-line signature recognition & verification using neural network is proposed, where the signature is captured and presented to the user in an image format. Signatures are verifi...

A Preliminary Study on Various Off-line Hand Written Signature Verification Approaches

Biometrics can be classified into two broad categories— behavioral (signature verification, keystroke dynamics, etc.) and physiological (iris characteristics, fingerprint, etc.). Handwritten signature is amongst the first few biometrics to be used even before the advent of computers. Signature verification is widely studied and discussed using two approaches [5]. On-line approach uses an electr...
